Gifts

Gifts are items that a player can choose from to begin the game with. All gifts are obtainable through the game. Many of the items have a limited number of uses, but some are key items. The Black Firebombs may allow you to kill the first boss Asylum Demon before obtaining your weapon, and the demon will drop Demon's Great Hammer.

Image Gift Effect
divineblessing.png Divine blessing Divine holy water. Fully restores HP and removes negative status effects.

Can be found in Sen's Fortress inside of a chest, in a lava pit in Lost Izalith, a chest in Anor Londo near the precarious rafters above the Painted World of Ariamis, as well as given by Alvina after defeating one invader for the Forest Hunter covenant.
blackfirebomb.png Black Firebomb Explodes upon impact when thrown. More deadly than a standard firebomb.

If chosen, you start with 10 black firebombs.

This gift is usually chosen for the purpose of obtaining the Demon's Great Hammer at the start of the game.
twinhumanities.png Twin Humanities Tiny sprite called humanity. Sometimes found on carcasses.

Can be found in the Undead Burg and used by the player (to become human and kindle bonfires) or traded with Snuggly the Crow.
binoculars.png Binoculars Binoculars. Use to peer at faraway sights.

Not recommended because it can be found in the skeleton graveyard of the starting area. - Firelink Shrine
pendant.png Pendant Trinket. No effect, but fond memories comfort travelers.

Used to trade with Snuggly the Crow, apparently used for story later on.

Upon saving Rhea of Thorolund from the Tomb of the Giants, she moves to Undead Parish and prays by a statue. If you leave her there without speaking to her and speak with Petrus of Thorolund and leave again(may have to move into multiple areas), supposedly he kills her and the next time you visit the Undead Parish the Pendant is in her place.

Has a rare chance of being given after killing a human after being summoned by Alvina as a member of the Forest Hunters.
masterkey.png Master Key Opens any basic lock. Initial equipment for a Thief.

Opens a few shortcuts to access powerful items early in the game, may also let you skip certain areas.

Not recommended for beginners that want to experience intended play, as of patch 1.05 can be obtained from Domhnall of Zena under the bridge at Firelink Shrine after entering Blighttown.
tinybeingsring.png Tiny Being's Ring Special tribal ring.

Grants 5% maximum HP boost. The Gift menu during character creation erroneously claims that it recovers HP.

Not recommended because you can gain Vitality easily at the start of Firelink Shrine area.

Given as a reward from Siegmeyer of Catarina in Anor Londo.
oldwitchsring.png Old Witch's Ring Gift from a witch.

Ancient ring with no obvious effect.

Makes Quelaag's Sister think you are Chaos Witch Quelaag. she will actually speak to you. This is just story dialogue and has nothing to do with accessing the covenant.

This ring can also be obtained by trading Sunlight Maggot with Snuggly the Crow.

Basically a guide on what starter gift you should pick if you are unsure:

Divine Blessing: Good starter choice if you don;t want the Master Key and you know you aren't going to have a strength build to use the Demon's Great Hammer. These will help for sticky situations in PvP where you need that quick full recovery, unfortunately you only get two of them.

Black Firebomb: A good choice for killing both the Asylum Demon and Taurus Demon quickly, killing the asylum demon before walking through the fog gate will net you the Demon's Great Hammer , an okay weapon for strength builds.

Twin humanities: Will enable you to restore human and kindle the bonfire as soon as you get to the Undead Burg , useful if u need those 5 extra flasks.

Binoculars: Can be found in the graveyard; not useful at all.

Pendant: Although it may seem to have no use, it is good for joining the Blade of the Darkmoon Covenant as it will allow you to get a souvenir of reprisal for free.

Master Key: BEST CHOICE. As soon as you get into Firelink Shrine it will allow you to go down to New Londo Ruins to the Valley of Drakes and get the Astora's Straight Sword and Dragon Crest Shield both of which will assist you greatly through the level.

Tiny Being's Ring: Well it's okay if you are REALLY unlucky and need that extra bit of health to survive hits. Will help as one of the first Rings you get because you won't be able to equip anything else.

Old Witch's Ring: Good for enhancing story, not good for much else, although a few people have claimed it increases damage on chaos spells.
