Tips
- Axes deal heavy Poise damage similar to greatswords and can stunlock
- Heavy Normal damage is effective against most opponents
- Most Axes have a whiff animation if the attack misses, causing the user to take extra damage during the animation.
- Unlike the Hammers the whiff animation is still active and can harm opponents.

Damage: |
The Damage stat dictates how much damage the weapon does. The Damage stats for a weapon are W / X / Y / Z:
Each weapon has one or more physical damage types:
Certain enemies are weak or strong against different types of damage types. |
Critical: | The damage bonus for backstabs and ripostes. Thrusting Swords and Daggers get an invisible bonus to critical damage as well. |
Durability: | The health of the weapon. The effectiveness of the weapon will severely deteriorate when the durability falls below 30%. |
Weight: | The weight of the weapon. Note that carrying over 50% of a character's Equip Burden will reduce the speed of their rolls, while going over 100% will reduce their regular speed to walking and attempts to roll or backstep will leave them momentarily stunned. |
Stats Needed: |
The Stats Needed determines how high various Stats must be in order to wield the weapon effectively. The Requirement stats for a weapon are W / X / Y / Z:
Wielding a weapon without the required Strength and/or Dexterity will incur a penalty to the Physical damage of the weapon, while lower-than-required Magic and/or Faith will reduce the Magic damage of the weapon. Also keep in mind that a character gains a 50% bonus to Strength by wielding a weapon with both hands, thus reducing the actual Strength required. |
Damage Reduction %: |
The Damage Reduction stat dictates the percentage of damage reduced while blocking. The Damage Reduction stats for a weapon are W / X / Y / Z:
|
Stability: | The stability of the weapon. The higher this value, the less stamina is consumed when blocking attacks. |
Frampt Souls: | This is the amount of souls players will receive if they feed the item to Kingseeker Frampt. |
Tips
- Bows are the opposite of Crossbows - They have a draw time but almost no ending lag, and require high Dexterity in order to deal damage.
- While locked on, having a bow drawn allows one to follow a strafing target, possibly preventing a backstab.
- Short Bows, specifically the Composite Bow, Darkmoon Bow, and the Short Bow itself, fire faster than the Longbows.
- Poison Arrows do not work if you fail the requirements for the bow.
- An Occult or Divine bow with Moonlight Arrows will outdamage the Darkmoon Bow at high levels of Faith.

Also keep in mind that the player character gains a 50% bonus to Strength by wielding a weapon with both hands, thus reducing the actual Strength required. For example, a character with 18 Strength can wield a Great Axe (Requires 26 Strength) properly if she holds the weapon with both hands (18 x 1.5 = 27). |
Stat Bonuses: | The Stat Bonuses rating indicates the level of bonus players receive based on the associated Stat when they use a weapon. This rating can be S, A, B, C, D, or E (in order from most to least bonus for the associated skill). |
Tips
- Crossbows deal heavy Thrust damage and are highly effective with the Leo Ring when used to get Counter Damage
- Crossbows have very high base damage but no scaling. This makes them ideal for characters whose Dexterity is too low to get effective damage with a Bow.
- Crossbows cannot be aimed, making them unfit for sniping.
- Crossbows must be reloaded after being fired, leaving the user open to damage and even backstabs.
Crossbows cannot become Raw, Enchanted, Occult, or Chaos.

- Curved Swords attack incredibly quickly, making them very useful with weapon buffs such as Darkmoon Blade or Rotten Pine Resin
- Curved Swords generally have poor reach, so mobility is necessary.
- Curved Swords deal Slash damage, which is less effective against heavily armored targets.
- Curved Swords lack a kick and do poorly against shields, though any Bleed buildup will transfer straight through in PvP.

Tips
- Daggers are quick but deal light damage. They should not be used against an opponent with high Poise unless they are using a very slow weapon.
- Daggers deal massive amounts of critical damage compared to other weapons, especially with backstabs.
- Left-handed daggers can be used to parry, and the left-handed attack is fast with good reach.
- Daggers' fast attacks make them effective when buffed with Crystal Magic Weapon, Rotten Pine Resin and the like. Their speed also means it is easier to dodge while using them.

Tips
- Fist weapons attack quickly but have short range and low damage, making them difficult to use effectively.
- Except for the Claws, the strong attacks are difficult to use properly.
- Light attacks eventually push your opponent out of your reach; keep them in a corner or fight near a ledge.
- Left-handed attacks deal less damage but are faster and break more Poise. Only the Claws cannot parry.
- Using the Gauntlets of Thorns will add 20 physical damage to Fist-based attacks. The boost is not visible in the status menu.
- Make sure you have plenty of Stamina and low Equip Load, or you will find yourself taking a lot of damage.

Tips
- Greataxes deal heavy damage and break large amounts of Poise, but are slow and have short reach.
- Oddly, one-handed Greataxe attacks are faster than two-handed Greataxe attacks.
- Greataxes leave the user open frequently, but are fast enough to prevent backstabs and "bait" opponents into walking into another attack. Use of Iron Flesh or heavy Armor is recommended.
- Greataxes have the highest damage potential of all the weapon types.

Tips
- Greatbows are generally bad for direct combat, but can knock opponents off of ledges.
- Greatbows can only use Great Arrows.
- Greatbows deal more damage than Bows do in one shot, but their slow speed and high stamina costs makes them unwieldy.
- Using the Hawk Ring gives you significantly more range, and therefore more damage.
- While the Range stat on the bows themselves, Greatbows have a roughly 50% increased range using Dragonslayer Arrows and a 25% increased range with Gough's Great Arrows.
- If pressed into close combat, the tracking when aiming is normally good enough to prevent the user from being backstabbed, though it is not guaranteed if the connection to your opponent is poor.
|
* Even though you must two-hand greatbows in order to use them, the strength requirement does not decrease.

Tips
- Great Hammers are slow but deal massive amounts of Strike damage and have excellent Poise-breaking ability.
- Great Hammers also deal a large amount of Stamina damage to blocking targets, but weak attacks will not hit through a guard break and are not fast enough to capitalize on the enemy's vulnerability.
- Great Hammers will leave the user open to attacks but will definitely hit home when the user manages to hit his/her target. Using a spell like Iron Flesh or some heavy Armor is recommended.
- Great Hammers have surprisingly variable range. The Demon's Great Hammer has the greatest general reach but the Large Club has a lunging attack that covers a huge area.

Tips
- Almost all Halberds deal Thrust damage with their weak attacks, making the Leo Ring very useful with them. Other attacks deal Normal damage.
- The Scythe, Great Scythe, and Lifehunt Scythe are exceptions to this. They deal purely Slash damage.
- The Giant's Halberd deals Thrust damage on its strong attacks, and the Black Knight Halberd deals Slash damage on its strong attacks.
- Halberds have the reach of Spears with the damage of Greatswords.
- This is offset by having a whiff animation when the user misses, leaving the user open to extra damage.

- Katanas deal very fast Slash damage, but have very low durability. Carrying Repair Powder is suggested.
- The Bleed buildup on all Katanas is very useful against any opponent susceptible to it.
- Katanas' Slash damage can inhibit their usefulness, as heavily armored opponents have higher Slash defense than other types. Straightswords are sometimes a better option.
- Katanas' thrusting attacks are fast and have very good reach, but have thin hitboxes.

|

Tips
- Thrusting Swords deal very high critical damage compared to other weapons, especially on ripostes.
- Thrusting Swords have very quick, long-range thrust attacks and can benefit from Counter Damage. Their speed also means dodging or parrying successfully is easier.
- Thrusting Swords deal very little Poise damage, which can be dangerous to the user if he/she misjudges his/her opponent's attack pattern.
- Thrusting swords can "shield poke," or attack while the user is blocking, which can be extremely useful.

Tips
- Ultra Greatswords have very good reach and damage, and can stunlock opponents. They are also very slow.
- Ultra Greatswords' wide swings offset their slow speed. The strong attacks deal good damage but can leave the user wide open.
- Ultra Greatswords are easily parried and generally leave the user wide open. A strong defense such as Iron Flesh or heavy Armor is recommended, unless the user wants to utilize their rolling attacks.

Tips
- Whips are odd weapons that cannot be parried or used in critical or plunging attacks. They deal light but reliable damage.
- The Whips' attacks cover a large area and have good range, making them very useful against opponents with low Poise.
- Whips have an unusually long stun time, making them effective against Skeletons and other nimble opponents.
- Whips are good offhand weapons, as their tracking capabilities increase and they can be used to parry.
- Buffing Whips is an effective tactic. The particle effects - besides the blue tint of Magic Weapon - are hidden until the weapon is used, and the fact that it can't be parried lets the user attack in relative safety.
